HISTORY OF PANCHALINGALA

Panchalingala is a village panchayat located in the Kurnool district of Andhra-Pradesh state,India. It is famous for five Lingas which represent panchabhuthas - Agni, Vayu, Pruthvi, Akasha, Varuna.

Panchalingala is the only place in India to have five Lingas in one temple. Centuries ago, king Janamejaya has performed sarpa dosha nivarana pooja and has enshrined these five Lingas. Since then, it is believed that worshiping this holy place will help in sarpa dosha, nava graha dosha, kuja dosha nivarana. Panchalingala was considered as "Virupaksha Mukadwaram" during reign of Sri Krishna Devaraya. Lord Virabhadra who was enshrined by Sri Krishna Devaraya, is believed to fulfill desires of people.

Panchalingala was also considered as start of Rayalaseema as per ancient records found. It was also called as "Dakshina Gaya". There are many holy temples around Panchalingala. Below are few of them:

 

  • Jogulamba temple, Alampur

  • Lord Narasimha temple, Ahobilam

  • Lord Siva temple, Yaganti

  • Lord Siva temple, Mahanandi

  • Sri Raghavendra temple, Manthralayam
